Aceh geothermal power plant to operate in 2019

State electricity company PT Perusahaan Listrik Negara (PLN) is hoping PLTP Jaboi geothermal power plant which will be built in Sabang, Nanggroe Aceh Darussalam (NAD) will be able to begin operation in 2019.

Anang Yahmadi, senior manager of geothermal energy at the renewable energy department at PLN, said that the letter of assignment from the local government to PT Sabang Geothermal Energy as the developer had been issued.

?We are still waiting for the electricity sale contract agreement with the developer,? he said, adding that PLN and the developer had in principle agreed to set the price of the electricity from the geothermal power plant at Rp 1,750 per kilowatt hour (kWh).

PLTP Jaboi which will have a capacity of 2.5 megawatt is expected to cope with power shortage in Aceh province.
