Aceh villagers sues Exxon for Rp 3 billion

Residents of the Buket Seuntang village in the Dewantara district, North Aceh has filed a legal suit at the Lhokseumawe court against ExxonMobil for causing pollution, Serambi Indonesia reported on Tuesday.
In the class action, the villagers demanded a compensation of Rp 3 billion for the damage and pollution caused by the industrial waste of the gas producer, or Rp 2 billion for the material loss and the other Rp 1 billion for the immaterial loss.
In the court hearing held last week, the villagers claimed that ExxonMobil's industrial waste had caused a serious damage to their farming areas including rice fields and plantations. The hearing was led by judge Arsil Marwan with two assistants judges Rahmawati and Muhifuddin. (*)
