State Minister of State-Owned Enterprises Rini Soemarno appointed Ahmad Bambang as Vice President Director of state-owned oil and gas firm PT Pertamina, and Rachmat Hardadi as Director for Petrochemical and Processing Megaprojects, two newly-created senior posts at the company.

Antara news agency said that the decision was made at a shareholders meeting of the company on Thursday.

Ahmad was previously director of marketing and commercial at the company, while Rachmat was director of processing. The report did not say who will replace the posts left vacant by the two.

The creation of the two new director posts at Pertamina was proposed by the company?s board of commissioners. The vice president director will be in charge of the oil and gas downstream sector and renewable energy.

Pertamina President Commissioner Tanri Abeng said on Thursday that it?s high time for Pertamina to focus on mega projects as part of efforts to realize its ambition of becoming a global player.

He said that in his new position, Rachmat will be in charge of handling Pertamina?s large projects. He pointed out that Pertamina is currently dealing with at least four large refinery projects, with total investment projection of US$30-40 billion over the next 5-6 years. One example is the planned development of the Tuban oil refinery in East Java, in partnership with Russia?s Rosneft. (*)
