Adaro 2001 coal production to increase to 18 million tons

Coal mining company PT Adaro Indonesia plans to increase coal production this year to 18 million tons compared to 15.4 million tons in 2000, according to company operational manager Paringin Putu Sastrawan. The increase will make Adaro Indonesia's largest coal producer.

Paringin was quoted by the Banjarmasin Post daily as saying that 58 percent of the production would go to overseas market. He said that last year; around 63 percent of the production was exported.

Adaro has coal mining operation in the Hulu Sungai Utara and Tabalong regencies in South Kalimantan province.

Paringin said that last year the company failed to reach its target to produce 16 million tons of coal due to various problems including unfavorable weather and social condition.

But he was optimistic that this year's 18 million ton target could be achieved. (*)
