IDX-listed coal giant PT Adaro Energy Tbk said that the planned 2x1000 MW coal-fired power plant in Batang, Central Java, will need up to 7 million tons per year of coal supply when completed and fully operated.
The country?s second largest coal miner said in its 2013 annual report released recently that it will supply much of the plant?s coal requirement with its Envirocoal which has very low pollutants.
Adaro in partnership with Japan?s Itochu Corp and J-Power are planning to build the US$4 billion coal-fired power plant. Financial closure for the public-private partnership project has been delayed due to various problems, with the government setting a new deadline of October 6, 2014.
If completed, the power plant is dubbed to be the largest in Southeast Asia, and is seen as a model for public-private partnership scheme project, which receives government guarantee in the form of state utility PLN honoring the power purchase agreement.
Elsewhere, Adaro said that the consortium called PT Bhimasena Power Indonesia, in which Itochu and J-Power each owns 34 percent stake, and the remaining 32 percent held by Adaro, has acquired 85 percent of the land requirement, and has obtained the necessary environmental AMDAL approval.
