Adaro coal output up in Q1 2001

Indonesia's largest coal producer PT Adaro Indonesia said Thursday its coal production had significantly increased to 3.97 million tons in the first quarter of 2001 from 3.38 million tons in the corresponding period of last year.

The company produced 4.1 million tons of coal in the last quarter of 2000.

The company's administration manager Priyadi told Petromindo.com that the production for the quarter was slightly below target, but he did not mention the target.

However, he was optimistic the company could boost production in the next quarters to meet this year's production target of 18 million tons.

Adaro which, operates a coalmine in South Kalimantan, produces clean coal labeled "Envirocoal". Last year Adaro produced 15.5 million tons of coal.

Adaro sells its production primarily to international market.

Adaro is 50 percent owned by Australia's New Hope Corporation, 40 percent by local company Asminco Bara Utama and the rest is owned by American based Mission Energy. (alex)
