Adaro demanded to compensate land in S. Kalimantan

More than one hundred villagers Monday held a demonstration at the mining site of coal producer PT Adaro Indonesia in South Kalimantan to demand land compensation, local daily Banjarmasin Post reported.

The protesters, who came from villages near Adaro?s coalmine in Mamburai Tanjung, dispersed after police officers fired warning shorts. Their two-hour demonstration ended at 5 PM.

A local court had decided that Adaro had acquired land from the villagers according to legal procedures. Meanwhile, Adaro?s spokesman Andre said Monday that the company had paid for the villagers? land.

Adaro is one of Indonesia?s top coal producers. (*)
