Independent power producer PT Adaro Power, a subsidiary of IDX-listed coal giant PT Adaro Energy Tbk, said it is interested in developing mine mouth power plant projects in the country.

Vice President Director of Adaro Power, Dharma Djojonegoro said that the company is currently waiting for detailed policy of state-owned electricity firm PT PLN regarding mine mouth power plant development. ?We?re interested (in mine mouth power plant projects),? he told Petromindo.com recently on the sidelines of a coal conference in Bali.

He said that the mine mouth power plants can be located in any of the group?s coal mines in East Kalimantan, South Kalimantan, and South Sumatra.

Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources Ignasius Jonan has asked PLN to procure electricity from mine mouth coal-fired power plants in a bid to help reduce production cost. By building power plant at the mine location, transportation cost of the fuel can be at least minimized.

Adaro holds stake in a consortium called PT Bhimasena Power Indonesia, which is developing a 2x1,000 MW coal-fired power plant in Batang, Central Java, which is targeted to be completed in 2020. Adaro is also developing a 2x100 coal-fired power plant in Tabalong, South Kalimantan, targeted for completion in 2019.
