IDX-listed PT Adaro Energy Tbk hopes the financing agreement for PLTU Batang power plant can be signed this year so that the construction of the coal-fired power plant can be started next year.

?After the signing of the financing agreement, we plan to begin the construction in 2014,? the company?s President Director Garibaldi (Boy) Thohir told Petromindo.com following the company?s shareholders meeting on Friday.

PLTU Batang which will have capacity of 2x1,000 Megawatt (MW) will be the largest power plant in Southeast Asia. Adaro plans to spend about US$4 billion for the construction of the power plant to be built in Batang, Central Java.

Boy said that his company was conducting land acquisition for the power plant. ?Some people refuse the land acquisition, but we are quite optimistic that we can settle the problem well,? he said.

He hoped PLTU Batang could begin commercial operation in 2017. The new power plant will receive coal supply of about 7.5 million tons a year from Adaro?s own mine and from Kaltim Prima Coal (KPC).

Adaro will set up a consortium with J-Power and Itochu and local firm PT Bhimasena Power Indonesia to build and operate the power plant which will sell its electricity to state owned electricity company PT PLN.
