Adaro, Kideco settle coal price deal with PLN

The directorate general minerals and coal said on Monday that state owned electricity firm PT Perusahaan Listrik Negara (PLN) has reached agreement on price with coal producers PT Kiedco Jaya Agung and PT Adaro Indonesia.

Director general of mineral and coal Bambang Setiawan said that both coal miners agreed that the coal sold to PLN with the price between government?s coal price reference (HBA) and export price, but he did not give exact figures.

The monthly reference price issued by the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources rose from US$92.68 per tonne in October to $95.51 in November, $103.41 in December and $112.41 in January. Meanwhile the price reference issued by Barlow-Jonker showed different trend. According to Barlow-Jonker index (NEX), coal price which reached $95.05 per tonne in October continued rising in the following months to $104.2 in November, $110.20 in December and to $130.85 in January.

But, according to director coal business supervision at the directorate general Bambang Gatot Ariyono said that there was no deal yet reached by PLN with Adaro. ?Adaro is still close to a deal with PLN,? he said.

Other coal miners PT Tambang Batubara Bukit Asam (PTBA), PT Kaltim Prima Coal (KPC), PT Berau Coal have neither reached agreement with PLN, he added.

PLN earlier said in a statement that it had completed a negotiation with PT Arutmin Indonesia on coal supply for 2011. The two companies agreed to use the government?s guideline in pricing the 7.2 million tonnes of coal to be supplied by Arutmin. (bernard)
