Adaro plans increased coal production

Australian mining firm New Hope Corporation (NHC) said Thursday its Indonesian coal mining unit PT.Adaro Indonesia will be producing 26 million tons of coal in 2005 calendar year, an increase of around 25 million tons production plan this year.

The company said the increase in production was intended to take advantage of higher world coal prices.

Adaro, said NHC, exports 67 percent of production to 17 overseas countries, with the balance supplied domestically for power and industrial use.

Meanwhile, NHC said that its Indonesian coal port unit PT. Indonesia Bulk Terminal (IBT) handled 7.4 million tons of coal in August 2003-July 2004 financial year, higher than previous financial year?s throughput of 7.2 million tons.(alex)
