Farmers of teh Tabalong area, South Kalimantan complained that their fish have been killed by the liquid waste disposed of by coal mining company PT Adaro Indonesia.

A member of the local council who wanted to remain anonymous said a local farmer identified as Atang Bin Katibi of the Labuan village had recived Rp 2.5 million (US$1=8,325) in compensation from Adaro for its fish killed by the liquid waste from the company's coal mines.

The councilor said Adaro had asked Atang to stop production for five months, but Atang said he would rather sell his plot to the company.

But, both parties have not yet reached any agreement on the price of the land as Atang offered his land for Rp 20,000 per square meter, as against Adaro's price of Rp 250 per square meter.

Atang also demanded Rp 1,000 in compensation of each banana tree on his land, but Adaro offered a lower price. (*)
