Coalminer PT Adaro Indonesia said Wednesday it had secured a 5-year permit to use land for its operations in South Kalimantan.
Company official Priyadi told Petromindo.com that they would continue consulting with the local government about their long-term need for land.
On Monday, more than one hundred villagers from South Kalimantan?s Mamburai Tanjung village held a demonstration to demand Adaro to pay for their land. They complained that the company had acquired their land not in accordance with legal procedures.
But Adaro said it had compensated the protesting villagers for their land.
Adaro is Indonesia?s major coal producer. (*)
