South Kalimantan-based coal miner PT Adaro Indonesia has since last week stopped coal shipment to a number of coal-fired power plants in Java due to high waves, Antara reported on Monday.

Adaro?s Production Manager Priyadi said in Banjarmasin, South Kalimantan on Monday that the mining company could not obtain the government?s permit to carry out the coal shipment due to the high waves which have hit many parts of Indonesian waters, particularly the busy shipping lanes between Kalimantan and Java.

The high waves could reach 6 meters.

Banjarmasin?s port head Sufrisman Djaffar said that there were no coal barges sailing to Java since last week.

Meanwhile, Sutikno, the Technical Manager of Central Java's Cilacap 2x300 MW coal-fired power plant told Petromindo.com on Tuesday there were seven coal-carrying barges which had delayed coming to the power plant's jetty. The seven barges include four carrying coal owned by PT Jorong Barutama Greston, two barges carrying coal from PT Kideco Jaya Agung and one barge carrying coal from PT Adaro Indonesia. (Godang)
