South Kalimantan-based coal mining giant PT Adaro Indonesia has agreed to allow Indonesian-registerd barges to transport its coal, the Banjarmasin Post daily reported Thursday.
National barge owners accordingly will be invited to take part in next year?s tender for transporting Adaro?s coal, the paper quoted as saying Ardiansyah, assistant to the South Kalimantan governor.
Currently, most barges transporting Adaro?s coal in South Kalimantan are registered overseas. National company Rig Tenders operate them.
South Kalimantan provincial governor Sjahriel had earlier asked foreign-flagged coal barges to leave the area on the ground that existing regulations prohibit them from operating in Indonesia.
The governor wanted more local companies to transport coal from the province. He said he had approached the national transportation association, INSA, to make it happen. (*)
