ADB eyeing electricity projects financing

Asian Development Bank (ADB) is planning to channel loan to finance geothermal power plant and electrification program in Indonesia.

Sohail Hasnie, Principal Energy Specialist Energy and Water Division Southeast Asia Department, did not give detail about geothermal projects it planned to finance.

He said that the bank has agreed to loan US$100 million to state electricity firm PT PLN (Persero) to finance Java-Bali Distribution Improvement Project, which fund will be disbursed after PLN selected the contractor.

PLN Director Ngurah Adnyana said the company will open tender for the project next month.

Sohail also said that the bank, teaming up with French Develompent Agency AFD will give loan up to $120 million to develop a power plant project in West Kalimantan.

According to Soheil, the bank has given loan of 1.75 billion last year to finance clean energy development in the region in 2010. (giok)
