The Manila-based Asia Development Bank (ADB) has agreed to provide soft loans worth about Rp 60 billion to finance the construction of a micro hydropower plant in Santong, West Nusa Tenggara or NTB province, Investor Daily reported on Wednesday.
Wardiyono, a senior staff of the branch office of the state electricity company PLN in Mataram, said on Tuesday that studies on the construction and engineering, as well on the environmental impact of the 850 kilowatt-power plant had been completed.
"We hope the construction of the power plant could be begun in 2005 so that the new power supply can enter the power interconnection in 2007," he said, adding that the new power plant can provide power to about 1,000 households in the province.
At least 13,000 potential power subscribers in the province have been on the waiting list, no less than 10,000 of them are domiciled in Lombok. (*)
