PT Artha Daya Coalindo, a coal trading firm partly owned by Indonesia Power, plans to operate two more coal barges, each with capacity of 11,000 tons and 11,500 tons in June this year to meet the surge in the demand from the country's coal miners, Bisnis Indonesia reported on Tuesday.

ADC's president director Munadjad said in Jakarta on Monday that the company would buy the new ships from PT Karija Teknis Utama for about US$8.2 million and $4.1 million, respectively.

"With the rupiah exchange rate of between Rp 8,000 and Rp 9,000, the operation of the two ships is expected to reach break event point within six years," he said.

At present, ADC operates two cargo ships to transport coal from Kalimantan to the Suralaya coal fired power plant in Banten. The company also operates a modern unloading facility Floating Distribution Equipment (FDE) to speed up coal unloading to the Suralaya power plant. (*)
