PT Aek Simonggo Energy plans to build a PLTMH micro hydropower plant with capacity of 9 megawatt (MW) in Humbang Hasundutan regency, North Sumatra, Bisnis Indonesia reported on Friday.

The company?s director Berman Pasaribu said that the company would invest up to Rp 120 billion for the construction of the micro hydropower plant which would use Simonggo river to run its power generator.

?Land acquisition is now underway for the power plant,? he was quoted by the newspaper as saying. He would secure bank loan to finance the project.

According to him, the construction cost of the hydropower plant would be relatively high, but its maintenance cost is generally low. ?So the average operating cost will be low,? he added.

His company?s hydropower plant would be the second power plant which would take the advantage of Simonggo river. ?The first power plant with capacity 2 x 2.5 MW has begun operation,? he added. (*)
