Kompas daily reported Tuesday that as the result of the power supply interruption, the local unit of the electricity company PLN was forced to cut off the power supply from five to seven o?clock in the morning beginning on Monday in certain areas in the region.
One of the power plant?s generation units was forced to stop operation on Sunday due to a technical problem at its turbine operation, said senior executive of the local PLN office, Syahban Sinuraya.
He said that if the technical problem could not be solved immediately, the power supply in the region would be getting worse.
As part of solution to deal with the acute shortage of the power supply in the region, PLN has reduced the power supply by 30 percent every three days in Palembang, 20 percent in Lahat and 50 percent in Tanjung Karang.(*)
