AGO detains Chevron worker in bioremediation project case

Bachtiar Abdul Fatah, VP for Supply Chain Management at PT Chevron Pacific Indonesia, has been arrested at his residence by a team from the Attorney General's Office (AGO) in relation with the ongoing bioremediation case.

"This morning Bachtiar was arrested from his home by the AGO," Yanto sianipar, VP Government and Public Affair, said to petromindo.com.

Yanto said CPI really deplored the incident and will soon convey protest or objection to the authority.

"We protest because there is no reason for AGO to treat Bachtiar like a criminal. They have no ground at all. All these times, CPI has always cooperated and showed good intention in resolving problems within existing legal corridor," said Yanto.

Bachtiar is one of four Chevron workers, who had earlier been detained for 63 days. Later on a pre-trial hearing freed them from the detention and questioned the validity of the four being declared as suspects. The AGO appealed but was rejected by the South Jakarta District Court who ruled in favor of the workers.
