A joint venture entity of IDX-listed PT AKR Corporindo Tbk and British Petroleum (BP) has opened its first aviation jet fuel terminal in Morowali, Central Sulawesi province.
The jet fuel terminal is the first jet fuel terminal operated by private companies in Indonesia. In the past, jet fuel terminal business has been monopolized by the state-run energy company PT Pertamina.
AKR Corporindo and BP through its subsidiary Air BP has earlier set up a joint venture company called PT Dirgantara Petroindo Raya (DPR) to develop jet fuel stations or terminals in various parts of the country, in particular in newly developed airports in eastern Indonesia.
The JV company's jet fuel terminal is located at Aircraft Filling Depot (DPPU) at the Special Airport of Indonesia Morowali Industrial Park (IMIP).
"With the commercial operation in IMIP, the (JV) company becomes the first private company that distributes aviation fuel in Indonesia," the company said in a statement.
DPR said it intends to support the development of Indonesia’s aviation industry and contribute to the growth of its economy by investing in infrastructure, applying the latest innovative technology and operational best practices for the supply of aviation fuel.
The demand of aviation fuel in Indonesia has been increasing rapidly in line with the high growth of aviation sector, supported by population and economic growth, DPR said.
The DPPU launching was held in conjunction with the launching of IMIP Special Airport, where PT IMIP is an Industrial Estate located in Morowali, Sulawesi Tengah.
The inauguration was attended by Hamid Mina, President Commissioner of PT IMIP, along with the board of directors and officials of PT IMIP, President Director of AKRA Haryanto Adikoesoemo along with top management of AKR Group, Head of Country BP Indonesia Suryo Wibowo, Director of PT DPR Virita Harlistyanti, and other executives.
"The filling depot which will be operated by PT DPR at the IMIP Special Airport is an aviation fuel storage facility equipped with direct-to-plane filling services. We hope by this cooperation, the IMIP Industrial Estate will be further developed in Indonesia and in the world," Virita Harlistyanti, President Director of DPR, said.
