IDX-listed PT AKR Corporindo Tbk plans to build 4x300 MW power plants in Gresik, East Java, to support its nearly completed Java Integrated Industrial and Port Estate.

AKR Corporindo President Director Haryanto Adikoesoemo said on Thursday that total investment for the coal-fired and gas-fired power plants, each with a capacity of 2x300 MW, is estimated at around US$1.5 billion.

He said the company was hoping to start construction of a small gas-fired power plant next year. Gas for the plant is expected to come from fields in East Java.

Construction of the overall power plants is expected to be completed within three years, he added. Coal for the coal-fired plant will come from South and East Kalimantan.
