IDX-listed logistics company PT AKR Corporido Tbk hopes to be able to start operation of a 23 MW dual fuel power plant at its Java Integrated Industrial Ports and Estate (JIIPE) in Gresik, East Java, before the middle of next year.

?Hopefully, before May 2017 (the power plant) starts operation,? said AKR Director Suresh Vembu to petromindo.com on Monday.

He said that the generating unit for the power plant, which can be run on fuel oil or gas, is expected to arrive from Europe at the end of this year.

Suresh said that AKR is also preparing to start construction of a 500 MW gas-fired power plant next year.

He was quoted by Bisnis Indonesia as saying that the estimated US$600 million power plant is projected to be completed in 2019.

The paper said that the power output will be supplied to plants operating at JIIPE including planned copper smelter to be built by gold and copper giant PT Freeport Indonesia, which has signed land lease with AKR.
