AKR seeks to significantly increase fuel sales

JSX-listed fuel distributor and chemical producer AKR Corporindo is eyeing to increase sales of fuel products to 1 million kiloliters in 2008, up from the 600,000 kiloliters sales target in 2007. The company managed to sell 256,000 kiloliters of fuel in 2006.

The increase would mainly be coming from the sale of speed diesel, fuel oil and ID, the company said.

The company said in its presentation material filed with the Jakarta Stock Exchange Tuesday said that it was currently serving 400 customers in Java island and is expanding sales to Lampung in Sumatra and Kalimantan starting this year.

The company also said it was eyeing aviation fuel distribution business, joining hand with Anglo-American major BP plc. The first airport to be opened for competitive aviation fuel supply would be in Surabaya, and tenders have been called for multiple suppliers in Surabaya airport and is currently awaiting decision from the government, it said.

AKR also said it was eyeing LPG distribution business once the market would be opened for non-Pertamina players.

AKR is also strengthening its position as logistic provider by constructing logistics facilities such as terminal in Tanjung Perak port, Surabaya, fuel storages in Belawan port, North Sumatra, jetties in Panjang port, Lampung and filling stations in South Kalimantan, all are slated to be completed between October 2007-March 2008.

The company currently has 6-year contract with Royal Dutch/Shell to transport fuel for Shell?s gas stations starting October 2005, and it has also rented storage tank in Ciwandan, Banten to Petronas.

A new petroleum port is also planned to be built by the company in Tanjung Priok Jakarta. The port, which will be the largest private petroleum port in Jakarta, will serve Oil Major and markets in greater Jakarta and Java, it said. The company has already secured a land bank of 15.5 hectares. Construction time is expected to take 18 months, said the company, adding that the proposed oil storage terminal would be built with international terminal company as JV partner.(alex)
