PT AKR Corporindo Tbk (AKR) having sent the first shipment of its coal through subsidiary PT Anugrah Karya Raya (AKR Coal) on March 31 this year, targets between 1.5 to 2 million tons of coal output from its mine in Buntok Kecil, Central Kalimantan this year.
"Being in Central Kalimantan, we rely on Barito River for our coal transport, which rely heavily on rainfall. Luckily the location of our mine is quite strategic that we can be benefited by heavier rainfall," said a source in the company to Petromindo.com, adding that AKR can produce between 4,000 to 5,000 tons of coal per day, but can only transport up to 3,000 tons per day when the river water level is high enough for its time chartered barges to pass through.
The company has signed export contract of 1.3 million tons for 12 months starting the end of March, with the first shipment of 52,900 tons of 5,000 kcal/kg cv coal carried through the IBT coal terminal in Central Kalimantan and further transported with supermax vessel Mandarin River.
The company is currently improving its logistic infrastructures, targeting to finish its hauling roads construction in Central Kalimantan, port infrastructure in Buntok Baru and the proposed intermediate stock pile in Teluk Timbau in the next two years.
