AKR to start C. Kalimantan coal production

Sees 2012 production to reach 2MT

IDX-listed logistics and fuel supply firm PT AKR Corporindo, Tbk. will start coal mine production from its mine in Central Kalimantan late this month after having successfully secured a number of permits including forestry permit.

Director Vembu Suresh told Petromindo.Com on Tuesday that the mine, which is located in North Barito regency, will produce 300,000-500,000 tonnes this year, ramping up to 1.2-2 MT next year.

Suresh said that the company is engaged in coal supply talks with a number of potential buyers and also considering option to sell the coal through its logistics chain in China.

The company operates the mine through its subsidiary PT Bumi Karunia Pertiwi. The company has also appointed PT Karunia Bumi Khatulistiwa (KBK) to carry out mining activities. KBK is now in the final phase of constructing production support facility such as haul road.

The company is currently in the final phase of constructing coal terminal in Buntok at Barito river which will have barge loading conveyor with capacity of 1,000 tonnes per hour, which will support shipments to domestic and overseas customers, Suresh said.(giok)
