French power company Akuo Energy said it plans to start construction of a 50 MWp solar power plant project in Melaya District, Jembrana Regency, Bali, in the second half of 2018 in the hope the power plant could start operation in 2019.
The company said in a statement that the Melaya solar farm will cover an area of 55 hectares of uncultivated farmland secured from the provincial government of Bali and its owned company PERUSDA Bali. Like all solar PV projects developed by Akuo Energy, Melaya will incorporate the company?s Agrinergie component via the setting up of photovoltaic greenhouses and permanent organic crop cultures.
?The project?s construction should be launched during the second half of 2018 and become in operation in 2019. General Electric GE is the project?s preferred technology supplier,? Akuo said in the statement.
As reported by this portal earlier, Akuo along with two other French firms signed on Wednesday letters of intent with Indonesia?s state-owned electricity firm PT PLN to each develop renewables-based power projects in Indonesia. The signing was made in Paris, on the sidelines of the One Planet Summit, and witnessed by Indonesia?s Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources Ignasius Jonan.
Eric Scotto, Chairman of Akuo Energy, says: ?Indonesia possesses considerable potential for the development of renewable energy, both in terms of resources and given the Indonesian government?s openly-stated major ambition to make its energy mix greener. Furthermore, Indonesia has thousands of islands, making it the perfect territory to deploy our island-focused expertise and our Agrinergie? concept. The major deal signed today with PLN paves the way for the development of utility-scale solar PV energy in Bali, and already makes Melaya the largest-ever solar project developed on the island?.
