Saudi Arabia?s major power company Alfanar Group plans to team up with power producer PT Indonesia Power, a subsidiary of state-owned electricity firm PT PLN to set up a workshop for repair and maintenance of power transformer and electricity generator in the country.

General Manager for Engineering Services at Alfanar, Amer Abdullah said last week to Petromindo.com that the planned project, which will be started with a feasibility study, will be led by its subsidiary Alfanar Engineering Services.

He said that the planned workshop forms part of Alfanar?s efforts to penetrate the Indonesian electricity sector. ?We?re optimistic that Alfanar?s technology and services can be accepted in the Indonesian market,? he said, but did not provide further details.

Meanwhile, Indonesia Power Operation Director, Eri Wibowo said that the planned cooperation with Alfanar is a follow up of a previous visit of Saudi Arabian King Salman to Indonesia. He said that PLN plans to cooperate with Alfanar in supplying electricity equipment, provide technical services, develop power plant projects as well as smart grid system in Indonesia.

?This is just a first step of the planned cooperation. Together with Alfanar consultants, we plan to carry out feasibility study for the workshop to be developed in Indonesia,? he said, adding that Indonesia Power has suggested the location of the facility in Bandung, West Java.

Alfanar is Saudi Arabia?s largest power producer employing 22,000 workers and has annual revenue of about US$2.5 billion.
