GM Irwan Sutanto told Petromindo.com that of the 4.2 million tons, 1.9 million tons was delievered by its transshipper Quito Samarinda and the remaining 2.2 million tons by Quito AKM-3 and Quito AKM-5.
The coal delivered by Quito Samarinda mostly belonged to East Kalimantan's coal miner PT Anugerah Bara Kaltim (ABK) and the rest of the coal is owned by coal traders LG, Bulk Trading and Glencore AG.
Quito Samarinda is chartered by ABK under a contract until 2012, while Altus serve the coal traders on a spot contract basis.
Irwan said that under the contract with ABK, Altus provides about 2-3 varied vessel of handymax and panamax size every month to carry the latter's coal.
Although Quito Samarinda is being chartered by ABK, other companies may make use of the transhipper on a spot contract basis, he said. ?There are about 2-3 vessel that are still available for spot-contract lease every month. But we should notify ABK first,? he said.
This year Quito Samarinda is targeted to carry around 3 million tons of coal, lower than its maximum capacity of 4.5 million tons per annum. Altus has set a low target for the vessel in anticipation of bad weather in the region and in view of rising competition in the business. There are now many transhippers fleet in Samarinda waters.
Meanwhile, transhippers Quito AKM-3 and Quito AKM-5 are targeted to carry a total of around 3.5 million this year, also lower than its maximum capacity of 4.5 million tons per annum.
About 1.9 million tons of coal to Quito AKM-3 and Quito AKM-5 comes from East Kalimantan miner PT Mandiri Inti Perkasa and about 280,000 tons from PT Kayan Utama Putra Coal.
Altus is also approaching PT Pesona Khatulistiwa Nusantara and PT Pipit Mutiara Jaya to use Quito AKM-3 and Quito AKM-5, he added.
Transshipers AKM-3 and Quito AKM-5 are contracted by PT Mandiri Inti Perkasa under 5-year contract starting February 2009. (denny)
