PTP said in a statement Altus had completed the three of 13 planned barge loads of gold mining plant which is being shipped from central Kalimantan to Guinea, West Africa.
Altus was awarded the relocation of a gold mining plant contract by Guinor Gold Corporation, a Canadian listed mining company, which acquired the plant from a subsidiary of Rio Tinto Plc, PTP said.
After the depletion of the ore body, the plant has been dismantled and readied for shipment to Guinea where it will be re-built over the next 12 months, PTP said.
The Kelian mine is located 450 kilometers up river from Samarinda on the Mahakam River in East Kalimantan.
Materials are transported 48 kilometers, from the mine site by truck to a barge load out of facility on the river at Jelemuq.
PTP said Altus Logistics marshalled tugs and barges as agreed in pre-arrival meetings with representatives of the Kelian mine and their subcontracted dismantling engineers.
It said strict sequencing, stowage and lashing are important to ensure cargo safety and efficient outturn at the transhipment port.
The barges are then towed 1,400 kilometers to the PTP where the equipment is discharged and towed.
Once sufficient equipment has been accumulated at PTP, an ocean-going vessel is loaded with the equipment bound for Conakry, Guinea.
PTP said three ocean-going vessels are expected to be required.
Upon arrival at Conakry, the equipment is then trucked almost 1,000 kilometers to new mine site, it added. (*)
