Manganese company PT Asia Mangan Grup (AMG) is undergoing a three-phase ferro-manganese smelter construction in Belu, East Nusa Tenggara. To support the smelter operation, AMG requires reliable power supply.

"It would be critical for us to be able to control the reliability of power supply and (it would be) unwise depending on only one supplier," Michael Kiernan, President Director of AMG, said to Petromindo.com on Tuesday.

AMG will have a smelter facility and its own power plant, 30 percent of total cost structure. Kiernan said it welcomes any party to establish a joint venture to build power plant, including PT PLN (Persero), to supply electricity for the smelter.

However, Kiernan said that PLN has to allocate at least US$100 million of investment to build a power plant in Atambua, Belu Regency.
