US oil firm Anadarko Petroleum has spudded first exploration well in North East Madura III exploration block offshore East Java.

The company said in its quarterly operations report released Thursday that the Jahe-1 well, which is located in 250 feet of water, is projected to reach total depth of 5,555 feet in the third quarter of 2006.

The company said it was preparing final plans for drilling a second will in the block. Rig will move from Jahe-1 to Merica-1, with plans for a third quarter spud, the company said.

Anadarko is the operator of the block with 60 percent interest, with US major Chevron Corp. has the balance. (alex)
