US oil, gas firm Anadarko Petroleum and UAE-based firm Pearl Energy are quitting their exploration blocks offshore East Java and offshore East Kalimantan, respectively.

Eddy Hermantoro, Upstream Director at the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources said that Anadarko quit the NE Madura III block offshore East Java as it failed to discover hydrocarbon after drilling three exploration wells.

Pearl is also in the process of relinquishing Karana PSC in Makassar Strait as it considered the risk of exploring in the block is ?too high?, Eddy said. (godang)
