Publicly listed general mining company PT Aneka Tambang reported total sales of Rp 423.4 billion (1US$=Rp 8,500) during the second quarter ended in June this year. The figures were 40 percent higher than those booked in the first quarter, or a-86 percent increase compared to the same period last year.

The company attributed the sharp increase in sales revenue to the significant increase in nickel prices in the world market. The weakening of the rupiah against the U.S. dollar in recent months also partly contributed to the higher than expected sales revenues, Suara Karya reported on Wednesday..

During the second quarter, Aneka Tambang's exports were worth Rp 406.2 billion. About Rp 216.85 billion of the total came from ferro nickel exports, Rp 35.18 billion from bauxites, Rp 53.1 billion from silver and Rp 69.66 billion from gold.

The company said that revenues from domestic sales reached a total of Rp 17.29 billion during the second quarter, of which Rp 3.27 billion came from the sales of gold and Rp 3.32 billion from the sales of silver. (*)
