The publicly listed state-owned tin and nickel mining company PT Aneka Tambang (Antam) said Tuesday that it had no intention to delay its planned joint operation with nickel mining firm PT Inco Indonesia in Pomalaa, Southeast Sulawesi province.
Antam corporate secretary Dohar Siregar said that the company was awaiting for the full guarantee of Inco Indonesia's principal in Canada because the planned joint operation would involve a long-term agreement of 20 years.
"We don't have any intention to make delays," he was quoted by the Neraca daily as saying. He was speaking on the sidelines of the ISO 14001 certificate handing ceremony to Antam's ferronickel unit in Pomalaa.
Both Antam and Inco control mining sites in Pomalaa. The two plans to form a joint venture to mine the area after the local administration strongly criticized the companies for not implementing any mining activity for over 30 years. The planned joint venture would also involve the local Pomalaa administration.(*)
