Stated-owned mining company PT PT Aneka Tambang Tbk (Antam) had dropped plans to buy gas for power plant from Energy Equity Sengkang due to transportation problems, the company?s president director said.

?We shall focus on (plans to get power supplies from) the hydropower plant in Poso with capacity 100-150 MW or coal-fired power plant with a similar capacity,? Deddy Aditya Soemanegara said recently.

Deddy did not provide details on the hydropower and coal fired power plants.

Earlier, Antam will team up with Energy Equity Sengkang, the operator of Sengkang gas block in South Sulawesi, and MedcoEnergi, which also has gas fields around the area, to build a liquefied natural gas (LNG) terminal in Pomalaa, Southeast Sulawesi. The terminal will later supply gas to Antam?s power plant. Antam operates three ferro-nickel smelters in Pomalaa.

Antam is also considering coal and water to use at the power plants besides gas to replace 6x17 MW fuel used to fire power plant. (godang)
