IDX-listed miner PT.Aneka Tambang Tbk (Antam) said it planned to build a 300,000 TPA copper smelter in Java or Halmahera, North Maluku.

Director of Development Tato Miraza told reporters on Monday that the company, teaming up with undisclosed Asian firm, is currently drafting preliminary study on the project.

A number of firms are trying to build a smelter in Indonesia following enactment of new Mining law that obliged miners to smelt their production in Indonesia within the next five years. (bernard)
