IDX-listed diversified miner PT Aneka Tambang (Antam) has finally obtained a strategic partner to help develop the planned smelter grade alumina (SGA) plant in Mempawah, West Kalimantan.

Kontan daily quoted on Thursday Antam Corporate Secretary Tri Hartono said that the strategic partner is a foreign investors which will have a majority stake in the US$1.5 billion project.

He, however, declined to disclose the identity of the foreign investor. ?We will announce it in the near future,? he said.

In August of last year, Antam said it was seeking at least two strategic partners for the planned SGA smelter project. The partners will have around 30-35 percent stake in the project, whose construction was scheduled to start end of 2014 or early 2015, with commissioning of the 1.2 million tons per year capacity plant scheduled for 2017.
