IDX-listed gold producer PT Aneka Tambang Tbk said that it needs 300,000 tons of coal per year to generate electricity to support its Smelter Grade Alumina (SGA) in Mempawah, West Kalimantan. The power plant has a capacity of 60 Megawatt (MW).

?The coal could be from Kalimantan, Jambi and Riau. Our subsidiary PT Indonesia Coal Resources would also supply,? Development Director Antam Tato Miraza said.

The smelter would process bauxite to become alumina at a capacity of 1.2 million tons per year.

The smelter is expected to start commence operation in 2016.
