Antam needs coal supply of 1 million tons a year

State owned mining company PT Aneka Tambang (Antam) Tbk will need coal supply of about 1 million tons a year for the company?s coal-fired power plant which will be built to support the operation of a new ferronickel smelting plant.

The company?s president director Alwinsyah Lubis said that the company would build a new ferronickel smelter in East Halmahera with a capacity of 27,000 tons a year.

In order to support the operation of the new smelter, Antam would build a coal-fired power plant with a capacity of 2 x 35 megawatt and diesel power plant with a capacity of 8 x 17 MW in the new smelting plant complex.

He said that the coal supply would be obtained from the company?s subsidiary PT Indonesia Coal Resources. ?We hope the construction could be completed in 2014 so that the new smelter can begin operation in early 2015,? he said, adding that the company was preparing the land for the project.
