IDX-listed mining firm PT Aneka Tambang Tbk (Antam) officially shut down on Thursday the Cikotok gold mine in Lebak, Banten province.

Antam Director for General Affairs and CSR, I Made Surata said that the mine was shut down as the reserves have been exhausted after more than 40 years of operation. He said that the remaining reserves are no longer economically feasible to be mined. He added that the IUP mining permit for the Cikotok mine has also expired.

The Cikotok mine entered post-mining phase in 2008. Surata said that the company will continue reclamation and re-vegetation process at the ex-mining area as well as CSR programs to help the local community.

Antam last year completed post-mining programs on Gebe Island, North Maluku. The company plans to also shut down the Pongkor gold mine in West Java in 2019. (*)
