State mining firm PT Aneka Tambang (Antam) Tbk is optimistic of meeting its nickel output target of 11,000 tons this year despite a destruction of its Ferro-nickel plant in Pomalaa, Kendari, at the end of last July.

Antam's acting operational director Imam Santoso Ibrahim was quoted as saying by Bisnis Indonesia the company had made a working system that would enhance production following the breakdown in its plant.

"We will use a toll system, in which we will send our nickel ore to Pangku, a mining plant in Japan. Pangku will process our nickel ore into nickel, and then we will sell the nickel," Santoso said in Pomalaa on Monday (Oct. 1).

Such a toll system is pursued because Antam had delivery commitment with its customers. But Santoso refused to detail how much ore had been sent to Pangku, and how much it sell its nickel to customers in South Korea and Taiwan.

In addition, Santoso said, the company would expedite the repair works at its Pomalaa plant from the initial target of three months into 42 days only. (*)
