Publicly listed general mining company PT Antam will buy at least one million tons of nickel ore a year from PT International Nickel Indonesia (INCO) beginning from the middle of next year, Investor daily reported on Wednesday.

Antam?s head of investors relations, Eko Endriwan said in Jakarta on Tuesday that the nickel ore to be procured from Inco?s nickel mine in East Pomalaa, Sulawesi would be processed at Antam?s third ferronickel plant which was now under construction.

He said that the use of Inco?s nickel ore could reduce Antam's costs by between US$3 and $4 per ton because Inco?s nickel mining area was quite close to Antam?s processing plant.

According to Eko, the third processing plant has been designed to process Antam?s nickel ore from its mining areas in Maluku, Southeast Sulawesi and Halmaherea. ?With the additional nickel ore from Inco, Antam could reduce transportation cost,? he said. (*)
