IDX-listed mining firm PT Aneka Tambang Tbk (Antam) aims to only run half of the annual production capacity of its new chemical grade alumina (CGA) plant in Tayan, West Kalimantan, this year, a company top official said.

Newly-appointed President Director of Antam, Teddy Badrujaman said on Tuesday that production of the Tayan CGA plant this year is expected to be about half of its annual capacity of 300,000 tons. ?We?re still at the learning stage,? he said.

The US$490 million CGA plant, in a joint venture with Japan?s Showa Denko KK which has a 20 percent stake, started commercial operation in February of this year after four years of construction.
