Gold and nickel mining company PT Aneka Tambang's (Antam)2004 gold output target of 4,175 kilograms would not be affected by last week's accident at its Pongkor gold mine site West Java.
“The accident in Pongkar will not have any impact on the gold production of Antam,” Antam president Deddy A. Sumanagara was quoted by the Bisnis Indonesia daily Monday edition.
Seven people (all illegal miners) had been confirmed dead at the Pongkor mine site last week when they were trapped in a tunnel filled with fumes while digging for gold. Six others were still missing.(*)
