State miner PT. Aneka Tambang Tbk. (Antam) on Friday announced that the company booked a net income of Rp 41.7 billion (US$ = Rp 8,800) in the first quarter of 2002, far lower than last year?s same period net income of Rp. 105 billion.

Antam?s net sales was slightly increasing to Rp. 343 billion in first quarter 2002 from Rp 339 billion in first quarter of 2001.

The company?s net income decrease mainly contributed by increasing cost of goods sold from Rp 180 billion in 2001 to Rp 257 billion in 2002, and foreign exchange loss of Rp. 33 billion. (alex)
