Antam's unit produces 50kt per month from Jambi coal mine

PT Indonesia Coal Resources (ICR), a subsidiary of listed state owned mining firm PT Aneka Tambang Tbk (Antam), now produce 40,000-50,000 tonnes of coal per month at its Jambi mine, the company?s official told Petromindo.Com.

The mine begins operation in June 2010 with production of around 200,000 tonnes in 2010. The mine has been producing 40,000-50,000 tonnes per month starting early this year, the company?s official said.

The company sells its coal to domestic market, the official said without giving further details.

Antam earlier said in a statement the mine's coal reserves are estimated at 8.25 million tonnes with calorific value ranging between 5,300 to 5,500 Kcal/kg (ADB). The coal is currently sold to domestic and Indian markets.

ICR acquired the mine for Rp 92.5 billion and the acquisition marked the firm's entry into coal mining business. ICR was formed to supply coal for a coal fired power plant that will be built by Antam to support its ferronickel facilities. (denny)
