Indonesian nickel and gold miner PT Aneka Tambang said on Thursday its 2001 ferronickel production rose to 10,300 tonnes from 10,111 tonnes in 2000, Reuters reported.

The state-run firm said its 2001 gold production fell to four tonnes from 4.02 tonnes.

"The (ferronickel) production is in line with the target of 10,300 tonnes but gold is slightly below the target which was 4.1 tonnes," Antam president director Deddy Aditya Sumanagara said.

The government owns 65 percent stakes in Antam which also sells nickel ore, bauxite, iron sand and silver.

Last year Antam lowered its ferronickel production target to 10,150 tonnes from 10,300 tonnes on concerns it might not be able to meet the initial target following an accident at one of its smelters in eastern Sulawesi.

Sumanagara also said 2001 net profit went up slightly from the previous year because of the current weak condition. He did not give details.

Antam booked a net profit of 311.2 billion rupiah (US$30 million) in the period of January-September 2001 while net profit in 2000 was 383.15 billion rupiah. (*)
