Antam to implement ISO 14000 in its Pongkor field

Publicly-listed state gold and nickel mining company PT Aneka Tambang (Antam) has targeted to implement the ISO 14001 environmental quality assurance standards starting this month at its gold mining processing unit in Pongkor.

Antam president Deddy Aditya Sumanagara disclosed that the company had allocated a total fund of Rp 2 billion to finance the implementation of ISO quality assurance principles.

He acknowledged that the fund for ISO implementation was quite big, but it would make the company a lot better in the future, especially in its environmental management. Thus the company would produce quality products but at the same time protecting the environment.

With the implementation of ISO 14001 standards, the success of Pongkor management would be judged not only from its production but also in its efforts to preserve the environment.

Nevertheless, Deddy warned that the success on the implementation of the ISO 14001 standards would also rely on the supports of other stakeholders, including local administration, local people and all employees at Pongkor. (amoros)
